About Language Based Learning Disabilities
Every student diagnosed with a language disability feels its impact far beyond the skills of reading, writing, and spelling. Understanding directions, organizing information, building a fund of general knowledge, developing effective problem solving strategies, understanding information as it becomes more syntactically complex, and expressing oneself succinctly are all adversely affected. Even making friends, assuming responsibility, assessing social situations, and acting appropriately depend on having an internal language system that helps a child make sense of the world.
At Windward we don't recognize the limitations of the "learning disabled" label. We believe no learning difference should interfere with any child's ability to succeed. Every child has a right to the resources he or she needs to achieve.
This web page represents Windward's effort to create a centralized resource for professionals, educators, parents and students. Click the link below to find practical information about learning disabilities that will help students both in and out of the classroom.
